«Nada humano me es ajeno»

«Nothing human is foreign to me»

The PP law that deuniversalizes justice has had the entire opposition against it. Considering the percentages of the population represented in Congress, practically half of Spain challenges as retrograde the right-wing norm that once again denies social humanism in the ideology that governs the country. Comments like «¿what have we lost in Tibet?», o «It's enough to do Don Quixote», illustrate the moral misery they try to instill disguised as pragmatism. China's threats, main creditor of the Spanish public debt, against the judicialization of the medieval barbarism consummated against the Tibetans, were made public coinciding with the parliamentary vote that ratifies the contumacy of the ´two Spains´.

«Homo sum, I think nothing human is alien to me», wrote Terence 65 years before Christ: «I am a man, and nothing human can be foreign to me». Our Unamuno opens his ´Of the tragic feeling of life´ (so spanish) concretizing the generic human in the specific man: no man can be a stranger to me. Millions of men who have been victims of genocide in Tibet are strangers to the PP, Sahara, Guatemala or Rwanda. And restrict universal justice to the defense of Spaniards murdered abroad, nor does it guarantee the conviction of murders such as that of journalist José Couso, responsibility of which the US olympically passes. It is very serious that party discipline subjects the conscientious vote of the deputies, as has been seen with the entry into the Iraq war and we see now with the restrictions on a law of the General Council of the Judiciary, the proposed anti-eviction law, that of abortion, etc. The separation of powers is a story and the supreme reason for partitocracy, a sad reality. This is how it goes.

An economic or political threat is enough for the Government to fold to the detriment of the responsible conscience that puts the humanist ideal before current conveniences.. This form of perversion impoverishes our democracy incalculably., as an expression of an arithmetic despotism that is subordinated to the imperialisms that are still in force. The most noble of the Spanish idiosyncrasy is described in the immortal symbol of Don Quixote, and to despise quixotism is to impugn our essence. In realistic terms, solidarity and generosity are in our DNA. Denying it so as not to irritate the powerful is as much as misplacing ourselves in the global whole with lazy resolutions. Hence the moral value of the commitment to abolish unnatural norms when the sign of the majority changes..
