The judge of the National Court, Santiago Pedraz, has closed the case in which it investigated the death during the invasion of Iraq of cameraman José Couso, that occurred 8 April 2003 at the Palestine hotel in Baghdad, considering that there is no room to continue the investigation due to the reform of the law of universal jurisdiction and the recent ruling of the Supreme Court that confirmed the archiving of the investigations into the genocide in Tibet.

The magistrate, which elevates the procedure to the Criminal Chamber to agree to the dismissal of the proceedings, points out that this resolution, of which Judge Cándido Conde-Pumpido was the speaker, es "extensible a procedimientos con similar fundamento" y tiene "fuerza vinculante para los jueces y tribunales inferiores". "El flexo no podrá mantenerse encendido", Pedraz regrets.
The judge had been prosecuted since 4 October 2011 and under a search and capture order for United States Army Lieutenant Colonel Philip de Camp, Captain Philip Wolford and Sergeant Thomas Gibson, whom he accused of crimes against protected persons and property in the case of armed conflict in conjunction with homicide.
