New York, 14 June 2012 – Ayer, The Friends of Tibete Parliamentary Front was formally presented in the National Congress of Brazil, under the initiative of Representative Walter Feldman and with the support of the signing of 215 parliamentarians. This is a group of deputies and senators from all parties willing to make an effort to generate real support for the resumption of dialogue between the leadership in Beijing and that in Dharamsala, that leads to guaranteeing genuine and meaningful autonomy for the Tibetan people.
Deputy Feldman said:
“This fight does not belong only to Tibetans, belongs to us, to governmental and non-governmental organizations, acting in the name of Human Rights to contribute to world peace and a culture of peace. Each nation has its history and tradition, those that should be remembered and venerated. Without this, little by little, people can lose their identity and become an uninteresting group, without a sense of homeland and without a soul.
Cultural identity is the dignity of a nation. That's why, I am with the people of Tibet in their struggle to maintain their identity, its recognition and fulfillment of equal rights.”
Furthermore, Deputy Feldman added:
“Brazil as a country of great importance in the world, cannot remain indifferent to the problem. Our position is essential to combat all violence and we must put the Culture of Peace into practice.
As a disseminator of the Culture of Peace, The parliamentary group invites the citizens of the world to establish an individual commitment in favor of human dignity and that peace be established throughout the world. "We present a new effective method of transformation towards a new consciousness for the third millennium."
The newly formed group also endorsed the Ottawa Declaration, a resolution adopted by the participants in the 6ª World Convention of Parliamentarians for Tibet, that took place in said Canadian city between 27 and the 29 last April and in which Deputy Feldman was one of the attendees.
As highlighted in Ottawa, The group drew attention to China's repressive policies in Tibet and the serious human rights violations and destruction of the identity of the Tibetan people., as evidenced by the attacks against Buddhism, Tibetan language and culture.
The National Congress of Brazil is bicameral, composed of the Chamber of Senators consisting of 81 members and the Chamber of Deputies, which has 513 members.
