Tibet and Human Rights Festival

The Tibet and Human Rights Festival organized by the Casa del Tíbet Foundation with the support of Barcelona City Council, This year it has invited three personalities from very different origins: Golok Jigma, an activist monk living in Switzerland after fleeing Tibet, where he was imprisoned and tortured by the Chinese authorities for having collaborated in the filming of the documentary 'Leaving Fear Behind';  Ming Xia, a Chinese dissident and professor of political science at New York's Staten Island College, USA, who is currently finishing a book on organized crime and the underworld in China; and Andrés Gattolin, french senator, vice-chairman of the Finance Committee and member of the international information group on Tibet in the Senate, as well as a professor of journalism at the University of Paris III-Sorbonne Nouvelle.

Naked JigmaTonight, Monday 11 December at 8 p.m., Golok Jigma, will give a talk at the Casa del Tíbet Foundation headquarters about his experience as a prisoner of the Chinese Government for having collaborated with Dhondup Wangchen in the filming of 'Leaving Fear Behind', documentary 25 minutes (after more than 40 hours of filming) in which Tibetans within Tibet are interviewed about their opinion regarding the Dalai Lama. Both were arrested in March 2008, year of the Beijing Olympics and the previous riots that spread through areas inhabited by Tibetans in protest against China. The documentary premiered on the first day of the Olympic Games, clandestinely screened for foreign reporters in Beijing.

Ming Xia
The Chinese dissident Ming Xia, will give the conference 'Asia: China & Tibet’ at the Casa del Tíbet Foundation on Wednesday 13 December at 8 p.m.; will also offer the talk 'Human Rights in China’ on thursday 14 December at 11 a.m. to the International Relations students of the Blanquerna University of Barcelona. Ming Xia visits our country for the first time. He was a professor and master of the Department of International Politics at Fudan University, China. The French environmental senator Andrés Gattolin, will speak on friday 15 December, also at the Casa del Tíbet Foundation, on 'The question of Tibet from an international perspective'. Gattolin is a member of the European Movement and has held various responsibilities in the federalist movement., both in France and abroad, especially in the Transnational Radical Party (originally Italian). in the senate, André Gattolin is secretary of the European Affairs Committee, vice-chairman of the Finance Committee and member of the international information group on Tibet. Each of the guests contributes their experience from different perspectives with the aim of showing the situation of a town, like the tibetan, that despite having lost his country almost 60 years, He does not resign himself to losing his identity and continues to harbor the hope of living in freedom., peacefully, resisting the repression exercised by the Chinese regime.

As in previous editions, in addition to conferences related to human rights, The Foundation has programmed activities that combine culture and spirituality to raise awareness about the universal values ​​that make up the ancient Tibetan culture., such as peace, nonviolence, social justice and respect for the environment.
