Beijing • A Chinese cook poisoned 21 people - one of them died and two are in critical condition- by confusing a pesticide with seasoning spices, the official Xinhua agency reported today.

The incident occurred in the Chinese region of Inner Mongolia., in northern China and neighboring the country of the same name, when the cook, now in police custody, preparing the ranch for some workers in the work to expand the Beijing-Tibet highway.

The police informed the official press today of the results of the investigation into the accident., happened on tuesday 23 April, and noted that traces of carbofuran were detected in the food that caused the poisoning., toxic substance used as a pesticide.

Los investigadores determinaron que se trató de un caso de "negligencia", despite the fact that they did not give explanations about what a container with pesticide was doing at a road work, and although this type of substances have been used previously in several intentional poisonings perpetrated in the country.

The workers belong to the company Mongolia Highway Engineering, which carries out the expansion of one of the main highways in the north of the country, famous in years past for its monumental traffic jams (some of them have lasted until 10 days).
