CHINA. A Tibetan monk died today after setting himself on fire outside a police station in western China, region where around 120 personas, mostly religious of that same nationality, they have tried to immolate themselves (and at least a hundred have died) since the year 2009.
The monk, of 43 years and called Tsultrim Gyatso, led his protest act towards the 15:00 today's local time (7:00 GMT) in Amchok town, Gannan prefecture, in the northwestern Chinese province of Gansu, where a significant Tibetan population lives.
Police investigate incident, latest in a long list of immolations in areas with Tibetan population, although in recent months no events of this type had been reported.
Beijing accuses the Dalai Lama and the groups supporting the Tibetan independence movement in exile of applauding and encouraging these immolations, despite the fact that the spiritual leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1989 has sometimes called for the cessation of these suicidal protests.
China assures that Tibet has been an inseparable part of its territory for centuries, while Tibetans argue that the region was long virtually independent until it was occupied by communist troops in 1951.
The monk Tsultrim Gyatso of 42 years since this self-immolation 19 December, in Malho, Tibet, left the following note:
¡Oh!
The tears
The pains of the heart
dear brother
¿can you hear me?
¿You can see it?
¿You can listen to it?
¿Who can we appeal to to alleviate the suffering of the six million Tibetans??
The tyrannical laws of the Chinese
They are taking our treasure house of gold and silver
The public is being oppressed
thinking about this, tears flow from my eyes
I am forced to burn my precious human body
For the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama
For the release of the imprisoned Panchen Lama
For the well-being of the six million Tibetans
I offer my body to the fire
I pray that my sacrifice serves all sentient beings on their path to liberation
