Just days after Tibetan leaders in exile called for an end to the practice, a Tibetan man set himself on fire on Saturday, to protest the brutal Chinese regime in Qinghai province, in the Midwest of China.
The man, who wore Tibetan costume, he blew himself up in Dzatoe County, in Yushul Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and then it was taken over by Chinese security forces, reported Radio Free Asia (RFA), citing local sources.
"Mientras se quemaba, gritó varias consignas pidiendo la independencia del Tíbet", he told the station (RFA) a source, which was not identified for security reasons.
"Pasó delante de varias tiendas tibetanas en el complejo comercial del Condado de Dzatoe con su cuerpo en llamas", the source said, adding that local merchants tried to put out the man's fire with water. Other sources added gruesome details of what happened before he was taken away by Chinese authorities..
Exiled Tibetan leaders last week called on Tibetans inside China to end these acts., saying that it goes against the non-violent nature of the movement. At least 52 Tibetans immolated themselves since March 2009, most in Sichuan province.
The latest self-immolation may be associated with Chinese authorities forcing local Tibetans to participate in the filming of a film that shows them living happily under Chinese rule., Tibet Phayul reported in his post, which quoted Tibet's Express newspaper. The report says the man who set himself on fire had 27 years and was called Yungdrung.
