THE VANGUARD: Councilor Martí and Lama Thubten Wangchen are awarded for their defense of animals

Barcelona, 16 dic (EFE).- The Commission for the Protection of Animal Rights (CPDA) of the Illustrious Bar Association of Barcelona (ICAB) This year it has awarded Lama Thubten Wangchen and Barcelona City Councilor Jordi Martí Galbis, as reported by the JxCat municipal group.

The lawyer Jordi Martí Galbís, who is currently spokesperson for the JxCAt group in Barcelona City Council, He is one of the founders of the CPDA and has a proven and extensive track record in favor of the recognition and protection of the rights and welfare of animals..

At the beginning of the century, being a deputy of the Catalan Parliamentary Group (CiU) in Congress, promoted the modification of the Penal Code to make the mistreatment of domestic animals resulting in death classified as a crime and, in 2011, as councilor in the government of Mayor Xavier Trias, took charge of the animal welfare area within the Department of the Presidency.

In the exercise of these powers, Martí promoted the approval by the plenary session of the Municipal Council, in 2014, of a new Protection Ordinance, Possession and Sale of Animals that had the objective of modernizing the previous norm, that had become obsolete, and give a boost to public policies in favor of animal welfare in the Catalan capital.

Among these initiatives, The one that stands out is allowing dogs to enter the Barcelona Metro..

For your part, Buddhist monk Thubten Wangchen, founder of the House of Tibet in Barcelona, representative of Tibet in Spain and member of the Tibetan Parliament in exile as representative of Europe, receives recognition from the CPDA for his outstanding career in the field of defense, protection and well-being of animals and raising awareness of society against animal abuse.
