FCT: “Tibet cannot be Hong Kong” By Thubten Wangchen

The conflict between Hong Kong and the Government of China puts the spotlight on a regime that does not allow opinions contrary to its ideology and that does not hesitate to use its repressive methods if the disagreement persists..

China does not put tanks on the streets of Hong Kong, like he did it ago 25 years in Tiananmen and is doing it right now in Tibet, because he knows that the international community, likely, I wouldn't allow it. And I say “possibly.”” with all the reluctance because this same international community looks the other way while the Chinese army represses, attacks and tortures thousands of Tibetans inside Tibet, preventing them from expressing themselves democratically, destroying their culture and banning their beliefs.

Tibetans within Tibet, the Uyghurs in Xinjiang or the Mongols in Southern Mongolia, They are not free to demonstrate as Hong Kong students do these days to demand democracy in their country and draw the attention of Western democracies..

More of 130 Tibetans have self-immolated since 2009 in a desperate gesture to protest against the critical situation of the Tibetan people. The international community is silent. Economic interests with the Asian giant have the power to silence political leaders in practically the entire world.

From 2010 Attempts at dialogue between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the representatives of the Tibetan Government in Exile are paralyzed.

El Sikyong Lobsang Branch, the prime minister of the Tibetan government, launched the international campaign “Umaylan” (Middle Way Approach), with the aim of informing and raising awareness among the international community about the aspiration of the Tibetan people to have genuine autonomy in Tibet and, at the time, ask for support to reopen dialogue with China.

This weekend our highest political representative arrives in Barcelona to hold meetings with the Tibetan community, Tibet support groups, parliamentarians and journalists.

On Monday 20 October, in the morning, Sikyong Lobsang Sangay will participate in an informative breakfast with the press at Col·association of Journalists of Barcelona; and , at 8 pm, will offer a conference at the Fundació Casa del Tibet.  An opportunity to learn first-hand about the current situation of Tibetans within Tibet and in exile.

I hope to count on your interest and participation..
