The Casa del Tíbet Foundation has been very sorry for the loss of beloved Professor Takna Jigme Sangpo, died last Saturday 17 from October to 94 years in the city of Turbenthal, where he had resided since 2003 Switzerland granted him political asylum.
Takna Jigme Sangpo was the Tibetan who was imprisoned by China the longest: 37 years, followed by the also missed Palden Gyatso, arrested 33 years of his life, vexed and tortured, for raising their voice against human rights violations and repressive policies in Tibet.
We had the honor of receiving Takna Jigme Sangpo at the Casa del Tibet Foundation headquarters on two occasions. The first in 2005, when he came to participate in the summer course organized by Judge Baltasar Garzón in Madrid on “Torture and terrorism” and in which he was accompanied by Palden Gyatso and other victims of the Chinese regime. On that occasion, Both were able to present before the National Court the evidence that would provide grounds for the complaints against the Chinese government for genocide and crimes against humanity presented by the Tibet Support Committee. (CAT).
in 2009 We were able to accompany him once again to the National Court, this time to testify. It was exciting to see his happiness at having the opportunity to declare for the first time before representatives of the Spanish justice system everything that he and his compatriots had suffered under the Chinese regime.. “Going before Justice today is, after leaving prison, one of the happiest moments I can remember”, he said at the doors of the court. Unfortunately, The investigations into the Tibet cause in the National Court were interrupted after the Popular Party government modified the Universal Justice Law and in 2019 were archived indefinitely.
Professor Takna Jigme Sangpo was born in Tibet in 1926 and was arrested for the first time in 1960 for teaching Tibetan language to primary school boys and girls, something prohibited by the Government of China that justified his arrest for “corrupting the minds of children with reactionary ideas”. ¡That was his great crime!
The Tibetan Government in Exile and all Tibetan communities in the world pray to honor his memory and for him to be reborn close to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.. The director of the Casa del Tíbet Foundation, Thubten Wangchen, performed a special ceremony for your best rebirth and for you to have a new life full of peace, happiness and health.
¡May the Buddha bless your future!
