EUROPA PRESS: Operation in China to end the immolations of Tibetans

They arrest 70 personas

Beijing, 7 Feb. (Reuters/EP) –

Chinese authorities have detained 70 people in an operation against immolations in the Tibetan majority regions, as reported this Thursday by state media, in the largest wave of arrests of its kind to date.

Nearly a hundred Tibetans have set themselves on fire to protest against the Chinese regime since 2009 in several Tibetan-majority regions, most of whom died as a result of the injuries suffered.

In recent months, The Government has initiated a new tactic to discourage protests, arresting and imprisoning people he believes have incited the immolations.

The latest arrests took place in Qinghai province (northwest), where the police have arrested 70 "presuntos criminales", twelve of whom have been formally arrested, which means they will be charged, According to the official Xinhua agency.

China has repeatedly accused the Dalai Lama, spiritual leader of the Tibetans, and pro-Tibet groups to encourage immolations.
