EUROPA PRESS: Obama will receive the Dalai Lama at the White House today

Debate on Tibet

The president of the United States, Barack Obama, will receive the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism this Friday, the Dalai Lama, amid the concerns expressed in recent days by Washington over tensions and human rights violations in Tibet.

"Estamos preocupados por las continuas tensiones y el deterioro de la situación de Derechos Humanos en las áreas tibetanas de China", the spokesperson for the White House National Security Council said this Thursday, Caitlin Hayden.

"Continuaremos pidiendo al Gobierno chino que continúe el diálogo con el Dalai Lama o sus representantes, without preconditions, como un medio para reducir las tensiones", Hayden indicated in his statement, in which he announced the meeting between Obama and the Dalai Lama.
