The Pro Human Rights Association will organize next Wednesday, 7 of May, en Salamanca una jornada en la que se debatirá la importancia de la justicia universal "como instrumento frente a la impunidad" and as a protection mechanism for victims.
This organization began a series of conferences at the end of last March that has already passed through Madrid, Seville and Valencia after the entry into force of 15 March the reform of the article 23 de la Ley Orgánica del Poder Judicial que supone la eliminación "de facto" of the principle of universal justice in Spain.
"Este principio faculta a cualquier estado a investigar crímenes internacionales que, by its nature, afectan a la comunidad internacional en su conjunto", they have emphasized, por lo que aseguran que rechazan "firmemente" this reform of universal justice.
So, the day that is celebrated this Friday at the University of Salamanca, it will be, in your opinion, un instrumento "frente a la impunidad y como mecanismo de protección a las víctimas".
Access to the day is free and will begin at 17.00 hours and there will be interventions by the professor of Criminal Law from the University of Salamanca, Ana Pérez Cepeda; the professor of Procedural Law at USAL, Lorenzo M. Bujosa Vadell; the expert lawyer in universal justice, Ana Mesutti; the magistrate of the Criminal Chamber of the National Court, José Ricardo de Prada Solaesa; the president of the Association for Human Rights of Spain, Jacinto Lara Bonilla; and David Couso, brother of the cameraman who died in the Iraq War in 2003 José Couso.
