In addition to the oratories of the three great monotheistic religions (christianity, Judaism to Islam), Barcelona has places of worship for more minority beliefs in the Catalan capital, Like Buddhism, the Seventh Day Adventist Church, the Witnesses of Jehovah and the temples of the Sikh tradition, of the Taoists and the Hindus.
To make known this diversity and wealth of cultures and traditions, the Unesco Association for Interreligious Dialogue (Audi) organizes the first Night of Religions in Barcelona, scheduled for Saturday, 17 of September.
KNOWLEDGE AND DIALOGUE / Audir is a non-denominational organization that promotes knowledge and dialogue between the set of beliefs and dogmas about divinity present in Catalonia. This initiative comes from Berlin, the capital of modern atheism, as defined by the American Lutheran theologian and sociologist Peter Berger. For four years, the German capital is calling for an open day at the facilities of the different religious denominations with a presence in the city and on cultural activities, traditional and assistance they carry out. And Barcelona, 24 centers of worship will participate to explain to visitors their social characteristics and historical aspects of their establishment in Barcelona.
A conference on the involvement of women in religions, workshops, different dialog tables, itineraries, concerts of religious music and tastings of traditional dishes are concentrated in the same day. «The aim is to spread the diversity of religious beliefs, an unknown reality for many Barcelona residents, favoring a meeting space away from the often distorted images that come from some religions», explains an Audir spokesperson.
