Beijing, 16 dic (EFE).- El Gobierno chino confía en que "España resuelva de forma apropiada" the case opened in the National Court against five former communist leaders for the repression in Tibet, among them Jiang Zemin, president between 1993 and 2003.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Hua Chunying, comentó hoy en rueda de prensa que el Gobierno chino "está al corriente" of the information published today by the newspaper El País in which it announces that the Spanish Executive is preparing a reform of universal jurisdiction that would suspend that case.
According to information from the Madrid newspaper, The Spanish Ministry of Justice plans to present in January a reform of the Organic Law of the Judiciary that will modify the article 23, that would annul the case opened against the former communist leaders.
"Las relaciones entre China y España son buenas y lo seguirán siendo. Ambas partes queremos aumentar la cooperación en varias áreas", Hua emphasized at the press conference.
Pekín "cree y espera que el Gobierno español manejará de manera apropiada este asunto", Hua indicated., in relation to the conflict of friction that arose in bilateral relations as a result of the case against the five former Chinese leaders.
China showed its firm opposition when, at the end of November, The Spanish National Court issued international arrest warrants against Jiang Zemin, and four other former rulers of that country within the case in which the repression of the communist regime in Tibet is investigated.
Among the complainants is Lama Thubten Wangchen, naturalized Spanish and member of the Tibet Support Committee and the Casa del Tíbet Foundation, grupo que acusa a siete exlíderes chinos de dirigir un ataque "generalizado y sistemático contra la población tibetana" between the end of the 80 and principles of 90.
Search and capture orders affect, besides Jiang Zemin, a Li Peng, former Chinese premier in the late 1980s and early 1990s; Qiao Shi, Former Chinese Security and head of the Armed Police; Chen Kuiyuan, secretary of the Chinese Communist Party in Tibet between 1992 and 2001; Peng Peyuyu, Minister of Family Planning of the country at the time.
The complaint filed by the Tibet Support Committee and the House of Tibet Foundation also included former President Hu Jintao and successor of Jiang Zemin., but on whom the National Court has not issued an arrest warrant.
China assures that Tibet has been part of its territory for centuries, while Tibetan groups in exile argue that the region was virtually independent when it was occupied by communist troops in the 1990s. 50. EFE
