The Dalai Lama asks that Tibet's demands against China not be forgottenSep 15, 2016
Strasbourg (France), 15 sep (EFE).- The Dalai Lama made an appeal today at the headquarters of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg (France) so that “the issue of Tibet remains present”, because “we want China to respect our Buddhist culture and philosophy”.

Before an audience made up of diplomats and European officials, The Dalai Lama assured that “the most important thing is not independence, but the common good", while thanking the EU and the pan-European organization of 47 states the support provided.

With a pacifist message, secularist and in favor of compassion, the tolerance, forgiveness and self-discipline, opted for the smile: “I love to smile, "Sometimes people are very serious.", stated.

This is how he provoked laughter and applause from the viewers of his talk with questions., especially, when he took advantage of an issue to put a washcloth dipped in cold water on his head to combat the heat.

Another of the most applauded moments occurred when he invited the ambassador of the Movement against hate speech, Anne Brasseur parliamentary, to put the campaign pin on his red tunic.

The Dalai expressed his fear that in the 21st century “what happened in the previous one could be reproduced.”, in reference to world wars, and criticized the “very materialistic” culture” from the West.

There, he added, “education is a key factor” and revealed that he is working on a document where he defends that “in school we must speak with compassion and kindness.”.

The Dalai Lama summarized his commitments in three: the feeling of unity for all human beings; as a Buddhist, seek harmony between religions; and as a Tibetan, defend the culture of non-violence.

The Tibetan spiritual leader held meetings with the secretary general of the Council of Europe, Thorbjorn Jagland; the president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the organization, Pedro Agramunt; and the Commissioner for Human Rights, Nils Muiznieks.
