New Delhi, 13 ago (EFE).- A young Tibetan died on Friday in the town of Meruma, in the Chinese province of Sichuan, after setting himself on fire in protest of China's occupation of Tibet, the Tibetan exile reported today.
The young man, of 24 years and identified as Choepa, He was persecuted by the Chinese authorities after participating in a demonstration against the occupation of Tibet in January., according to the Tibetan Center for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD).
The TCHRD stated in a statement that after the immolation of Choepa, who belonged to a nomadic clan, Chinese authorities have redoubled their military presence in Meruma, where a high degree of tension persisted over the weekend.
More of 40 Tibetans, mostly Buddhist monks, They have immolated themselves since last year in protest of the Chinese occupation and in favor of the return of the Dalai Lama to Tibet.
