ABOUT THE DALAI LAMA: Open letter from the Tibetan Community to all media, opinion leaders and influencers

Open letter to all media, opinion makers and influencers (Download pdf)

Barcelona, 20 April 2023.

S.S. the XIV Dalai Lama is for us, Tibetans and Tibetans, the manifestation of the buddha of compassion, as well as the refuge and protector of the snow country. Has 87 years and is the living embodiment of goodness and peace.
He has always lived in the purest and strictest monastic life, as befits a Buddhist monk.
Since he had to go into exile in India after the invasion of Tibet by the Government of the People's Republic of China, ago 64 years, The Dalai Lama has worked tirelessly to promote religious harmony, universal responsibility, secular ethics, non-violence and environmental protection.
We are deeply shocked and saddened by what we are seeing and hearing. There is not the slightest understanding of the intentions and compassionate personality of His Holiness, and there is no knowledge of the ancient traditions and beliefs of our Tibetan culture either..
The Dalai Lama was joking and being affectionate, as it always is with all people, be authorities, artists, street people, adults and children, poor or rich.
The question that few have asked is: Why and with what motivation was an edited and manipulated version of the video published more than a month and a half after the event?? Who is behind this action??
According to some publications,, and you can verify it in this video: https://youtu.be/2YjqLG3K-3c, There is no doubt that the networks have helped hide the objective of this fragment that has gone viral.
We are aware that there has been an obvious cultural clash. In our ancient Tibetan culture, the gesture of touching the forehead, kissing and sticking out your tongue implies proximity, respect and spirituality.
International news and social networks have not sought to be informed and have instead made judgments that are not based on rationality., much less in research.
A few seconds of an hour-long event have been taken out of context., What happened at the Dalai Lama temple, live and in front of more than 120 personas, between teachers, students, and even the young Indian's family.
The understanding of our cultural heritage and our beliefs has not been sought, but that fragment has been disseminated from a murky and distorted perspective created by trollers.
We understand the concern regarding children, and of course we share that this must be protected. But, We strongly condemn as execrable the introduction of narratives from other cultures and customs about gender and sexuality to interpret Tibetan forms of expression..
We live in a very superficial world, where people are quick to make hateful and disrespectful judgments. Unfortunately, universal responsibility, forgiveness and compassion are often lost on social media. On the other hand, lies are reflected and promoted, hate, greed, the money, bias and power.
Those responsible for the dissemination of this maliciously edited video, They have done great damage not only to the Dalai Lama, to Buddhist practitioners and Tibetan people, but to our humanity.
In conclusion, please, stop defaming and making false allegations and accusations against the Dalai Lama. Do not repeat unverified information. Do not be the loud voice of the trolls.
With the hope of being able to contribute to the knowledge of our culture and the situation of the Tibetan people, Please take some time to watch the following videos:
Long live S.S.. the 14th Dalai Lama to continue his virtuous work!
No matter how strong the evil wind blows, the flame of truth cannot be extinguished.
¡Gracias!
