Beijing closes Tibet to tourists amid growing anti-government protests
The measure comes after the first suicides «to the bonzo» in Tibetan territory and coinciding with the beginning of a traditional Buddhist pilgrimage
Beijing has decided to temporarily restrict tourist access to Tibet, as indicated by several travel agencies consulted by the France Presse agency, after the recent immolations of several activists, that burned like hell. The authorities have taken the measure coinciding with the beginning of a festival that annually welcomes hundreds of tourists to the region., which remains under close surveillance since the eruption of violent demonstrations against the Chinese Government in March 2008.
