Geshe Tenzin Zopa holds the honorary title of Geshe (doctorate) from Sera Jey Monastic University, in South India.. He was born in the remote Himalayan region of the Tsum Valley., in Nepal, and was ordained at the age of 9 years at Kopan Monastery by the late Great Mahasiddha Geshe Lama Konchog. He received the novice ordination of H.E.. Geshe Lundrup Soup Rinpoche and complete ordination of H.H.. the fourteenth Dalai Lama.

Geshe Tenzin Zopa is a great Buddhist teacher and a very popular teacher who speaks fluent English and has a contemporary approach.. He was the best student in debate, writing and memorization in Sera Je, and always ranked among the top five students of more than 5000 monks. in 2007 he completed his studies and graduated as one of the youngest Geshes (equivalent to a doctorate) in Tibetan Buddhism. In his youth he skipped four grades, and the Dalai Lama allowed him to take his final Buddhist exams four years early.

He has participated as a speaker at Buddhist conferences, interreligious and peace dialogue for many years.
