Background of the settlement:
The Tibetan settlement of Paonta Cholsum was established in the year 1967 a Bhuppur, in the state of Himachal Pradesh India, for 105 families with an initial population of 601 Tibetan refugees. Over time, the population has increased. Currently, has 125 families and a population of more than 1000 personas, including residential school students and monks. The settlement is located in the foothills of the Himalayas, in the Doon Valley, at a height of 3000 meters above sea level. Its climatic conditions are extreme, with temperatures varying from 5 °C a 46 °C.
In the settlement, he 90% of residents earn their livelihood by selling sweaters in different states of India during winter, to finance their children's education and cover daily expenses. This is the main source of income for the community, whose general economic situation is subsistence.
Project background:
The settlement is located in a remote area and frequently suffers from power outages., as well as monthly outages for maintenance. During the warmer months, The temperature can reach 46 °C. Thus, Help needed to purchase solar powered battery chargers for Prayer room, the conference room, and the offices of the Regional Association of Tibetan Women (RTWA) and the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (RTYC).
