Estimados,

International Tibet Network Members' Message

Dear All,
Last week in the Amdo Yushul area, several hundred Tibetans staged protests against Chinese diamond mining at sacred Tibetan religious sites, but the situtaion quickly escalated after hundreds of troops were sent to crackdown on Tibetans. Exile Tibetan sources report that Chinese troops beat and arrested a number of Tibetan protestors and that tension is building in the area.
According to a Tibetan source who spoke to Radio Free Asia, Tibetans have vowed to continue their protests "to the last Tibetan standing" but since then all roads have been blocked and communication lines are cut off so no further information can be ascertained about the situation.

We highly recommend Tibet Groups contact Foreign Minstries and Beijing Embassies and ask them to seek information from the Chinese authorities about the safety of Tibetans involved in these protests, the numbers detained and to request their release.
Find Beijing Embassies contact details at:

We will send more information as soon as it is available.
Sincerely,
Jigme
